FLUFFY SHIRTS, 1996-2000
fluff (lint), approx. 20x30cm, without the use of any adhesives

"How often would you have to wash a garment, until it vanishes completely?"

While doing the washing and drying of my personal clothing, I became fascinated by the fluff that remains in the dryer after usage, fascinated by this material which collects without being missed from somewhere else.

I wash and dry and collect the fluff. I sort it by colour. Finally I mould it into a new garment.

No adhesives are used in order to maintain the ephemeral character of the material. These shirts are made of fluff and fluff they will become again. They are reminders and signifiers of an endless cycle. They represent the memory of that one special garment that has vanished as well as the memory of all washed clothes and their wearers.

Loss, death and memory as well as life and labour are inscribed in these 'Fluffy Shirts'.
